Aotearoa is the Maori name for New Zealand and is commonly translated as "land of the long white cloud". And while this painting and its intention were not a part of the current introduction of the Treaty Principles Bill that would essentially strip Maori Peoples Rights as stated in the Tiriti O Waitangi, it does collide perfectly and I do feel that in some part, its fruition was somewhat destined to be.

Aiga [eye-ing-ah], the Samoan word for family, celebrates one of life’s greatest blessings. Reflective of my tatau (tattoo), the three main elements represent my father, mother, and sister, while the smaller fourth piece symbolizes the granddaughter, the last in the lineage. Together, they embody a unique blend of individuals bonded by blood and love. The structure of the work reflects the strength and continuity of heritage, with each piece interconnected yet distinct.
